Long Live Janet

Janet2 Ya know who I love?  Janet Jackson.  She is one of the true great talents of our time.  For realz.  We are lucky she is still recording music.  And turning out acting roles too, like she did in Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married " (airing on Cable TV now.)

I heard her brother died.  That sucks, I feel bad for her.  Janet, PopMuse loves you.  Live long time, ok?

I made a mix of some JANET remixes, rarities, and just personal favorites.  No great theme, just a random collection of Janet hotness old and new.  The folder has the tracks all out of order so refer to the pic below for song order, or just wing it, it's all good.

"Dance Your Ass Off" on Oxygen

Best Summer Show of 2009.  I have never watched Dancing With The Stars and won't, tooooo corny!  But this show is perfection.  I love the contestants (of course) and whole set-up.  Everyone is in on the joke and they are respectful of it.  But the real star of the show is Mayte as a judge.  She is luminous.  It hurts my eyes to look at her she is so beautiful and posed.  I can't believe she was the same girl dancing behind Prince for all those years - she is a MAJOR star.  Learn it.

Jay-Z "D.O.A. Death Of Autotune"

[DDotOmen.com] Jay-Z - D.O.A. (Official Video) from DDotOmen on Vimeo.

POPMUSE MIND BLOWN!  Jay-Z "Death of Auto-Tune" - brilliant.  As every damn Urban song is covered in Auto-tune, this is how you cut away everyone and stand out.  Kayne must be crying in corner, this track is many things but mainly a Kayne dis track.  Watch what happens on the lyrics "your jeans too tight, your colors too bright."  Freeeeedommmmm!

"You rappers singin' too much, get back to rap, you T-Pain-in too much."  -- WORD!!!

JAY-Z -- Best Rapper of ALL TIME!!!

Will Young "Tell Me The Worst" (Fred Falke Mix)

Will2 Such a beautiful remix of a beautiful Will Young track.  Really.  Gorgie.  Fred Falke is the new Stuart Price, right?  Modern minimalist remixes with little to do with dancing.  But in a good way.

This song held great meaning for me last year and I'm thrilled someone is breathing 2009 life into it.

Boom Boom Blog: "DISCO GLOBES 2009"

Discoglobe2009 "Disco Globes" is my annual Boom Boom Pride Mix.  I was going to skip it this year as "Jello Shots" just got released, but I figured as I had enough tracks for a BBB Post and Bjarne was willing to do a fierce continuous mix for me, I might as well do DG:09 after all.  And guess what...  I LOVE IT!!!  Sometimes the things that happen fast come together perfectly.  There's meaning in this mix, I didn't even know untill I listened to the collection all together for the FIRST TIME this morning.  (Normally takes me months to pull these together.)

No Liner Notes in the D'load folder this time, SORRY, it's happy Boom Boom front to back, that all you need to know.  There are a few notes below...

"DISCO GLOBES" CONTINUOUS SINGLE MP3 MIX BY BJARNE

"DISCO GLOBES" CONTINUOUS MIX (10 TRACKS BROKEN OUT)

D'load Track by Track Un-Mixed Full Length Versions:

Jordin Sparks - Battlefield (Bimbo Jones Club Mix) So shocked how much I love this one.  She mixes up well.

Keri Hilson feat. Kanye West & Ne-Yo - Knock You Down (Moto Blanco Club Mix) Expected much more from this collaboration of Moto and Keri, sorta average, but still a great lyric.

SOPHIA MAY Another Day (Sunfreakz Remix Radio Edit) Just Euro sun fun.

BASEMENT JAXX "Raindrops" (Funkagenda & Paul Thomas Re-Dux) The original is perfect, this is just a clubbier jittermix, but I like mucho.

Chris Cornell "Long Gone" (Digital Dog Club Mix) Prob my favorite on this collection (who knew??)  Gonna ignore all the players except Dig Dogs and just like it for what it is - amazing!

The Saturdays "Work" (Cahill Club Mix)  Ya know, "WORK! WORK!"

PINK "Please Don't Leave Me" (Chris' Heartbroken Club)    Damn this track has legs.

Kings Of Leon "Use Somebody" (Christian Luke ReBoot) Damn this track has legs.

RIHANNA "Breaking Dishes" (Ralphi & Craig J Mix) Break 'em.  I think Rihanna was doing a little forecasting on this one.

Jordin Sparks "One Step At A Time" (Jason Nevins Extended)  This is prob the most "Disco Globes" track on here.  I had to give the kids what they expect...  Gay summer sweetness.

A Final Thought for MJ

Mj_dangles_baby

Sorry, in this instance, the child molestation and child abuse outweighs ANY contribution to pop culture that would leave me feeling sad today.  For PopMuse, that is, you do you and cry if you must.

I will go up against anyone in a MIchael Jackson Trivia Contest, so don't test me, I was a HUGE fan, when he deserved it.  But truth be told he stopped contributing anything significant to music in 1995 with "Scream".

La Roux "Bulletproof"

See that bandwagon, yeah I'll jumpin' on it.  This La Roux track is my obsession of the moment.  I love the video and the remixes too.  There is a remix by Dean Coleman, I'm search for, anyone have a HQ copy of it?

Loving La Roux, the hype is well worth it, she's major.

Away We Go

Such a sweet movie.  We took a break from assembling Baby Furniture this past weekend to see it.  The film was beautiful and we could totally relate to this couple.  Even if you hate babies and pregnancy and comics doing twee dramas, you'll still enjoy it, I promise.

It's BABY BABY BABY for us these days, and we both love it.  Our place has never felt so complete as it does with all this baby stuff everywhere.  Awwww, I know.  I think we are ready (2 weeks left - we better be!)  Now I just worry about silly things like, what the first song I will play for Lily will be.  I mean if you could dictate what the very first song someone hears in their life on earth would be, what would you play???  That's a big DJ challenge, right there.  And NO, I won't be holding a boombox during the birth with my finger on the play button (or will I?)

Here's the song from the Away We Go Trailer (above), it's by Alexi Murdoch, who does most of The Soundtrack.

NEW PARTY MIX: "JELLO SHOTS"

Jello Excerpt from the Liner Notes:

This mix is entirely dedicated to and inspired by a series of insane Saturday Nights in Long Beach (and a few other SMALL cities).  Wait, Long Beach?  Yup, LBC!  Now I know some of you may be perplexed by the songlist, feels like a Friday Night on Top Forty FM Radio?  Yup, this is a guilty pleasure mix, up in da small club, with da small dance floor, partying with townies, think gay spring break… Shoot, just think JELLO SHOTS!  I know you have all these songs and you’ve retired them, but pulled together in this way, the sum is greater than the parts.  If you play “Jello Shots” at your summer BBQ you’ll be surprised what happens! Track 1-4 I am a music snob (shocking, I know).  And I can be incredibly tough on DJs; my standards are HIGH.  Then comes along a cute suburban DJ who played these four old-ass songs (that start this mix) in a row and the flow blew the roof off the place.  And in that moment this CD was born, It was clearly time to enjoy all those lame party jams, I would normally spit on...  (cont. reading in d'load folder below.)
